Characterizing Consistency-Based Diagnoses

چکیده
In this paper, we are mainly concerned with consistency-based diagnoses for systems represented in a propositional framework. Several characterizations of such diagnoses (mainly minimal diagnoses, kernel diagnoses, MT-diagnoses) have been proposed so far. Unfortunately, minimal diagnoses, and MT-diagnoses characterize only some consistency-based diagnoses and the set of kernel diagnoses for a system is often unsufficiently concise to be helpful; especially, the kernel diagnoses approach does not suggest any way to incorporate hierarchical relations between components within the diagnostic process. As an alternative to the kernel diagnoses characterization, we introduce the theory minimal conflicts for a system S. This characterization can be used to check whether a candidate diagnosis is a consistency-based (resp. a partial, a kernel) diagnosis for S in polynomial time. Additionally, it can be used to find out a consistency-based (resp. a partial, a kernel) diagnosis for S in polynomial time. Based on their theory prime implicates characterization, we show how theory minimal conflicts for S can be derived without requiring all the minimal conflicts of S to be generated.

New Advances in Structure-Based Diagnosis: A Method for Compiling Devices
This paper rests on a number of contributions. First, we propose a new characterization of consistency-based diagnoses using negation normal forms and show how key diagnostic queries, such as enumerating minimal-cardinality diagnoses, can be computed using simple manipulations of negation normal forms. Second, we present two fundamental theorems, Decomposition and Case-Analysis, that can be use...

This paper rests on several contributions. First, we introduce the notion of a consequence, which is a boolean expression that characterizes consistency-based diagnoses. Second, we introduce a basic algorithm for computing consequences when the system description is struc-tured using a causal network. We show that if the causal network has no undirected cycles, then a consequence has a linear s...

This paper presents a comprehensive approach for model-based diagnosis which includes proposals for characterizing and computing preferred diagnoses, assuming that the system description is augmented with a system structure (a directed graph explicating the interconnections between system components). Speciically, we rst introduce the notion of a consequence, which is a syntactically unconstrai...

متن کاملComparing GDE and Conflict-based Diagnosis
Conflict-based diagnosis is a recently proposed method for model-based diagnosis, inspired by consistency-based diagnosis, that incorporates a measure of data conflict, called the diagnostic conflict measure, to rank diagnoses. The probabilistic information that is required to compute the diagnostic conflict measure is represented by means of a Bayesian network. The general diagnostic engine is...
